What is Neuroplasticity?
Neuroplasticity is your brain’s ability to reorganize and form new neural connections throughout life. Our brains are constantly rewiring based on experiences, learning, and even our thoughts. Knowing the brain can rewire itself changes how I approach new skills.
Why it matters
Knowing the brain can rewire itself changes how I approach new skills.
The brain can compensate for damaged areas and adapt to new environments.
Mental abilities can improve at any age.
How I'm Engaging
- Exercise Routine: Engaging new activity like fitness which creates new neural pathways and growth for neurons by committing to nightly gym sessions.
- Daily Mindfulness: 10 minutes of meditation or mirror work each morning which research shows this literally changes brain structure.
- Nutrition for Brain Health: I'm incorporating omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants through a balanced diet to support optimal neuroplasticity which it really help throughout bootcamp journey.
Ways to Increase My Neuroplasticity
Growth Mindset
What is growth mindset and why it's relevant
A growth mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication, effort, and learning. It transforms how we approach challenges, failures, and opportunities.
What surprised me
Three things struck me about mindset.
First, changing our words changes our thinking. Adding "yet" turns "I can't code" into "I can't code yet" which opening up possibilities rather than shutting them down.
Second, the connection between effort and talent is clear-cut: our beliefs about abilities directly shape our results, and focusing on effort rather than talent improves both staying power and outcomes.
Third, growth mindsets create an upward spiral where people seek out challenges and see criticism as useful information instead of personal judgments.
How I’m Integrating Growth Mindset
Transforming My Learning Approach
Combining neuroplasticity and growth mindset reshapes how I learn. By embracing struggle, I recognise that challenge and frustration signal growth rather than failure. Building in repetition through regular practice strengthens neural pathways, making learning more efficient over time. I'm also focused on creating a growth environment by surrounding myself with both challenging opportunities and supportive resources that encourage continuous development.
This journey has been eye-opening. Understanding how my brain can change and believing my abilities can grow gives me a new perspective on learning and development. I’m excited to see where this takes me.
